Your editor has been a musician for many decades. He started the first band his Quaker school ever had and played drums with bands up until 1980 when he switched to stride piano. He had his own band until the mid-1990s and has played with the New Sunshine Jazz Band, Hill City Jazz Band, Not So Modern Jazz Band and the Phoenix Jazz Band.

I just flushed my toilet 3 times for no reason. Take that, humorless scolds!
My youngest daughter has been a vegan for fifteen years or so. When she comes to visit, I sometimes cook especially for her, but often I just prepare the meat separately from the side dishes, which are largely homegrown or organically produced locally. It's the butter and egg part of veganism that causes some dispute. The notion that butter and eggs are poison is nonsense and I can prove it, but what's the point. The real point is that's she's my amazing daughter and nothing could ever come between us. To paraphrase Fred Rogers, "I love you just the way you are"
