Undernews is the online report of the Progressive Review, edited by Sam Smith, who covered Washington during all or part of ten of America's presidencies and who has edited alternative journals since 1964. Your editor has been a musician for many decades. He started the first band his Quaker school ever had and played drums with bands up until 1980 when he switched to stride piano. He had his own band until the mid-1990s and has played with the New Sunshine Jazz Band, Hill City Jazz Band, Not So Modern Jazz Band and the Phoenix Jazz Band.

At last a recipe that everyone can understand. Oreo Turkey - delicious, I'll bet!
I was 4 or 5 years old. It must have been near Thanksgiving. I was walking with my Granddaddy in the cemetery. He was going to put flowers or my Grandmother's grave. I asked where she was...and he explained to me she had died and we were going to her grave. I then asked..."are you going to cook her?". I think he was shocked by my question. He asked me..why do you think we might cook your Grandmother? I answered with all the logic of a 4 or 5 year old...."The turkey died and you cooked the turkey".
Twenty-five years later...I became a vegetarian.
