Your editor has been a
musician for many decades. He started the first band his Quaker
school ever had and played drums with bands up until 1980 when
he switched to stride piano. He had his own band until the mid-1990s
and has played with the New Sunshine Jazz Band, Hill City Jazz
Band, Not So Modern Jazz Band and the Phoenix Jazz Band.

WMTW, ME- Justin Denney's family watched on as he ascended the CumberlandCountyCivicCenter stage during graduation Friday night to accept his diploma, but the superintendent told him to return to his seat.
The BonnyEagleHigh School senior's mother wants an apology, and her son wants his diploma. . . She said she and Justin both signed a code of conduct regarding the graduation when she picked up graduation tickets on Friday, but she doesn't think he violated it. "There was no misbehavior. Showboating is not misbehavior," Mary Denney said. "A bow, a kiss to your mom is not misbehavior. There was no need of my son not getting his diploma." Before the school began handing out diplomas, some students pulled out beach balls. One student was forced to sit away from his classmates with staff while police escorted another student behind the stage. . .
"I said, 'What did she ask you?' And, he goes, 'She said, 'There's no fooling around up here,'' and he just kind of looked at her because he wasn't fooling around. He didn't consider that fooling around or misbehaving in any sense of the word, and she goes, 'Why do you feel you deserve your diploma?' He goes, 'Because I worked hard and I earned it,' and she goes, 'No go take your seat,'" Mary Denney said. The crowd booed, but Justin Denney still doesn't have his diploma. . . . Please re-post this so that it never happens again, at this school or any other. Suzanne Lukas has no place in the educational system. In my opinion, she shouldn't be allowed within 1,000 yards of a child or given any position of authority anywhere, no matter how insignificant.
It is the function of school administrators to punish. To punish randomly, without reason and above all, without mercy. This provides the children with their most important lesson of life -- that it is arbitrary and unfair.
Well ya know, if you let one American high-school graduate stand up after a dozen years of schooling, take a quick bow, blow a kiss to their Mom, and point at their friends in acknowlegement, then pretty soon every graduate in America will take a quick bow, blow kisses to their Mothers, and acknowlege their friends - and OMG THEN where would we be?
Danger! Danger, Will Robinson!
Obviously, this principal and superintendent have narrowly averted total anarchy and both should be receiving the nation's grateful thanks and Wall Street-size bonuses and Medals of Freedom.

This is why banning guns from schools was such a bad idea.
Why do people bother to put their kids in public school any more.
Give me a break! Give the kid his diploma and an apology.
